Our Story

From a living room to a family of faith

Demo Church started small. Twelve neighbors, one borrowed living room, a pot of coffee, and a quiet conviction that God was about to do something. Almost two decades later, we are still leaning into the same calling that brought us together that first Sunday.

How it started

Twelve neighbors said yes, and the church began

In the spring of 2008, Pastor David and Sarah Chen invited twelve neighbors into their living room on a Tuesday night. They opened a Bible, prayed for the families on their block, and asked a simple question: what would it look like for a church to actually love this neighborhood?

There was no building. No band. No budget. Just a folding table, mismatched chairs, and the conviction that the gospel was meant to be lived in shared kitchens before it was ever preached from a stage. Within a year, those twelve neighbors had become forty. Within three years, they had outgrown the living room, then a school cafeteria, then a borrowed chapel.

What started as a Tuesday Bible study became a Sunday church. What started as one couple's hospitality became a community of households learning to follow Jesus together. The form changed every season. The calling never has.

What carries forward

What we hold on to today

The years change. The neighborhood changes. The building has changed twice. But a handful of commitments have been with us since that first Tuesday in the living room, and they are still the things that shape how we do everything.

  • Scripture first, alwaysWe let the Bible set the agenda, not the news cycle or the trends. It has carried Christians for two thousand years and it will carry us too.
  • Hospitality as worshipEvery meal, every open door, every awkward "come sit by me" is part of how we worship. The table is a sanctuary.
  • Faithful in our placeWe are not trying to be a famous church. We are trying to be a useful one, right here, to the neighbors God has given us.
